Tragical Roller recapture or threats of Middle-East for our migrating birds
The first recapture of the project’s ringed Rollers was under sad circumstances.
It was marked as a young bird last year in the Vajdaság and reported as a shooted bird in Saud Arabia.
The local Saudi Arabian webpage including some pictures of the young Rollers shows a lots of more pictures about illegal desert hunting aimed for different colourfuled migrating birds as Rollers, Orioles, Doves and Corncrakes.
It proves that illegal hunting does not end at the South-European countries as Italy, Greece or Malta but our birds’ threats would continue through the Middle-East region.
The wintering sites of the Carpathian Basin’s Rollers are still not known but we guess that their breeding sites might be the safest places for them
The data of the recapture is interesting because this is the first one from Saud Arabia, nevertheless it is distressing because the efforts for saving this species seems to be a little bit useless.
