Taxonomy and Description

The red-footed falcon (Falco vespertinus) belongs to the Falconidae family and the Falconiformes order. Being a monotypic species the closest relative, which was once considered as a subspecies, is the Amur falcon (Falco amurensis) living in east Asia.

Small raptor species, body size 28-31 cm, wingspan 65-75 cm, and the weight 130-197 grams. Marked difference in plumage between age groups and sexes.
